Grandstream GXP 2000 Cutting Out

So I recently upgraded my office to v 1.1.6.16 of the firmware, and I gotta say that for the most part I love it.

The one major problem I am having with it, and oddly enough only I am having it, is that every once in a while I get 5 - 15 seconds of buzzing where I cannot hear the party on the other end. I googled this and found this link: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?comment_page=2&page_id=21... where someone is reporting a similar error with the new firmware, but no resolution. I manage 8 GXP 2000 phones and this is the only one experiencing this issue. Most of my users are sales people so I know I would definitely hear about it ASAP if something was wrong. I'm hoping someone here has found out what could be causing this or I'll just have to wait until a new firmware patch comes out (it was fine before the upgrade, previously on 1.1.4.14).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

GS is looking into this. Is it in the middle of conversation?

If you have other phones on

If you have other phones on the same firmware that are working without troubles, do the following:

Replace the ethernet cord going from the LAN to the phone.
Replace the patch cord going to the switch port associated with the phone.
Replace the phone handset cord.

If that doesn't work, swap the phone with another Grandstream that is working properly. If your problem moves, it would signal that you have wiring problems. Grandstream's seem to be less tolerant of network conditions.

These actions have cleared many an isolated Grandstream problem. They ship crappy ethernet cables. Don't even use them.

gstreammkt - Thanks

They have an open ticket for me too, been jumping though hoops with them since I posted here, no luck as of yet. Yes it is in the middle of a conversation for about 5 - 10 seconds.

ethans - Thanks

I do appreciate you taking the time to post. Even though my phone suffered no such problems before upgrading the firmware, and even though i do not use the included cord (as I have heard about this problem before), my network troubleshooting had led me to both swap phones and cords in an effort to test. As I am on a small budget, and my sales team is not experiencing the problems as of yet, I have not seen the justification in buy a new phone. I will just wait for GS to solve the issue, unless someone else has been able to conquer a similar problem.

Grandstream GXP 2000 Cutting Out

I believe I am experiencing the same symptom. Unfortunately, the GXP2000 is many hundreds of miles from me so it is difficult for me to troubleshoot. However, the symptom sounds the same (5 to 10 seconds of buzzing while neither party hears any audio). We have replaced both the handset cord and the Ethernet cable but the symptom remains. Also, this symptom only happens on one of our GXP2000s.

On our phone, we have noticed that the LINE LED goes dark as the buzzing occurs. Does also happen to you? Also, following the symptom (which happens right in the middle of a call), we can continue talking for many minutes as if nothing had happened.

We are using ver. 1.1.6.16 and have generally been VERY happy with it. I'm not certain the buzzing symptom is unique to 1.1.6.16 because we first noticed it on ver 1.1.5.X. However, I do recall that we did not have the symptom with 1.1.4.25 and prior versions so the firmware does seem to be a factor.

What do you think of this theory: Given that the problem started following a firmware upgrade and that we're both seeing the symptom on one phone and not the others, it seems that the newer firmware is DOING SOMETHING that has brought out a dormant, pre-existing hardware problem in the misbehaving phones.

Interesting Theory

I too loose the lights during the buzzing/loss of audio. I have been in talks with Grandstream and they are telling me to RMA the thing. Not sure what to do next as this is obviously a firmware issue in my eyes.

If your interested I have been talking to an April Hu at Grandstream via this email address: otrs@grandstream.com.

Let me know if you figure anything out and I will do the same.

Thank you for the contact information. But...

Riteway1,

Thank you for confirming that our symptoms are the same and providing the contact information for the Grandstream agent you've been talking with. I've sent an e-mail to her this morning. I'm sure she would appreciate it if you now DELETE her contact information so she doesn't get spammed to death.

I'll gladly share any information learned.

I experince the same thing,

I experince the same thing, but found out the buzzing stops when i talk into the handset loudly.
there is another problem i experience. receiving sound is sometimes distorted, like it's clipping on the DA Converter.
the crackling is just less on u/a law compared to all the other codec
Reducing the volume on the handset doesnt help at all, on speaker the crackling sound is nearly gone.

btw: VAD is dissabled :)

Oddly Enought

I was going to take engineerdan's advice and nix the contact information, but I can only edit my first two posts, not the two after that. Not sure what is causing that.

I'm pretty sure 'otrs@grandstream' is a general mailbox. It appears on all replies from mail I've sent to support@grandstream, regardless the technician.

Grandstream is looking into this

Just a quick update: I too have an open ticket with Grandstream. They have been anxiously waiting for me to provide a Wireshark capture of packets to this phone. At long last (after retrieving the phone from out-of-state), I was able to capture and forward the necessary packets. Hopefully, this will help find a solution to this very annoying problem for all of us.

RE: Grandstream is looking into this

Interesting, because they told me just to RMA my phone. They didn't seem to think that there was anything accept a faulty phone that could cause this issue. Please keep up updated if something positive comes of this. If it happened to one of my phones it could certainly happen again.

Hardware Problem?

I strongly suspect you're right, Riteway.

Considering that I'm running identical firmware on all GXP2000s and experiencing this problem on just one, it is difficult to imagine that this is anything but a hardware problem. After all, what else would cause the active LINE LED to extinguish while the GXP2000 handset makes a buzzing sound?

I recognize that Grandstream is the expert in this field so the final determination is up to them. I'm just hoping to see the problem resolved!
