PSTN Hosting for remote Trixbox Pro server
Hello,
I have been using as GXW4104 for quite sometime now, and it has worked very well for its cost. we have had no issues using it for incoming and outgoing calls with our current settings in place. although due to a couple of B&E's at our office we are re-locating our servers to remote location. now I have the challenge of trying to host our PSTN lines out of our office to our remote trixbox through the GXW4104. all of our IP phones are set up as remote extensions, and are working fine through the TB - in & outbound by VoIP works flawlessly. everything appears to be working as it should i can call the PSTN line attached to the gxw and it "unconditionally" forwards to my trixbox no trouble. the call rings on the trixbox but when answered and the call is just dead air without the call being handed off for handling and routing, the callers end of the line just keeps ringing. in the hosted PSTN scenario we will not be using this device to make outgoing calls only to accept/answer incoming ones.
our TB PRO is set up on an externip of 207.167.xxx.xxx and is in the DMZ of this IP our GXW4104 has an externip of 207.34.xxx.xxx. I have tried changing the port forwarding rules and opened up ports on the firewall to allow connections to happen...but no luck.
so I am not getting any audio nor am I getting a proper call connection on the trixbox end.
anyone know how I might be able to correct this and get the calls to connect to the trixbox?. Or maybe how to properly register this device as a VoIP provider to the trixbox
let me know if any additional info is required.
any help would be appreciated.
cheers,

For clarity - You had the GXW, the Trixbox, and the phones all in location A and all working. The server has moved to location B, and now you have no RTP for the voice, but SIP is working as the phones register and ring when dialled.
Lets say I got that right. The GXW has an external IP, as does the Trixbox. I'll assume that the phones are on private IP's behind a firewall in Location A.
If all of that is correct, and you have phones that ring but don't talk, then it's got to be NAT once again.
My first plan would be to keep the phone server in the same location. It's a mission critical device and relocating it off site creates a massive number of points of failure. You wouldn't put your printers over there. It's doesn't seem practical.
Lets assume you already lost that battle. What would be handy to know is what are the devices that the phones pass through to get to the Trixbox. What ports are forwarded to where? Is there a VPN between the sites?
Do internals calls work?
If you take a phone to where the server is as a local extension, does that work?
Your problem may be the GXW to Trixbox, Trixbox to phones, or both.
I'll answer any question you have re: the network configuration at both ends to the best of my ability. I lost the fight to keep the TB here as soon as I was told it was moving :)
yes, everything was working in the same location. and yes only the server is moving, I have the trixbox in the DMZ on its router at the new location. I have the usual ports forwarded to the TB RTP 10000 - 20000 - but in the config for the GXW its rtp port was set to 5004 (default) even after I changed it to a port in the range (15000) - I get no voice. SIP is working as the phones are ringing, no audio (supposedly an RTP issue - via NAT) I also tried using a STUN server, but to no avail.
the trixbox is using a linksys BEFSR81 (I know, but it was what I had around - this move was last minute due to some handy thieves) and is working very well. the GXW is hooked up at our office through a netgear Prosafe FVS338 VPN firewall. I have considered connecting the two boxes by VPN, but have not had the time to research it out yet.
internal calls are working, all our phones are set up as external remotes s(server id here)x.trixbox.fonality.com. and it registers and works when taken to the new location. I think that the issue is the GXW to the trixbox - as there does not seem to be any handoff from the GXW to the TB. i was hoping that since the GXW was a "media gateway" that it could be used to register (the whole unit that is, not just line by line) to the trixbox much like a VOIP provider and have it hand off calls as such - but thats what happens, you get what you pay for.
in the meantime I have the phone line forwarded - (CFW - busy & CFW - no answer) to my VoIP phone number - it is working ok for now.
I'd still appreciate any extra help though - it would be nice to get something like this working and post the results - should anyone else want to try hosting phone lines :)
cheers,
Jason
Hi,
I'm having a similar issue as well. I've successfully registered 3 different phones (Polycom, Grandstream, Snom) setup in remote locations back to my PBX but there is no audio on any of them. I've got the necessary ports in the firewall opened up but it would appear that the RTP traffic is not working properly. I have a Netgear ProSafe FVS338 VPN firewall. I've successfully done this with other PBX's and firewalls in the same manner but this just doesn't seem to want to work. Any thought on if the FVS338 is the problem?
