Directed Call Pickup using XML

I have 57i phones. The admin guide shows an example of an XML app for Directed Call Pickup where you can intercept a call by selecting an extension from a list and then pressing a "Pickup" softkey/programmable key.

Is this XML app available?

I asked aastra support about

I asked aastra support about this and this is their reply:
"The Aastra XML scripts are not directly supported by Aastra. Standard Aastra support cannot answer your questions if you have issues with the scripts.

This package is ONLY supported via the Trixbox CE Forum at http://www.trixbox.org/forums/aastra-endpoints"

The problem is, it isn't in there normal distribution nor do I want support for it. I'm just looking for a copy of the script they talked about in the user guide. Is it perhaps part of an older script distribution? Does anyone have a copy?

What I'm talking about is on page 5-125 in this guide.

Hi Greg I think that was

Hi Greg

I think that was written by someone as a throw away example of what is possible, however I've asked around and no one has a copy anymore. You could use call pick up with BLF if that helps.

Otherwise you could offer a bounty to the community for someone to write it for you. The script would not be that complicated, it would use the agi to access the sip show channels and list those that are in the invite received state.

As for the support of the package, the official line is that the scripts are only supported through this forum. The were originally developed as examples to show how powerful the XML is, and this is declared in the user agreement and come with no support. But they were found to be very useful to lots of folks and are therefore available. Also you may find that stephane, (Aastra1) tends to be quite responsive, in spite of his day job, to any bugs that are found.

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks for the reply Kieran.

Thanks for the reply Kieran. That is all I was wanting to know. I figured it was an example, but was hoping someone might still have a copy.

I think I'll try my hand at xml. With the info in your documentation, I think I can get probably figure it out... some day.

Hi Greg, Did you get

Hi Greg,

Did you get anywhere with this? Being able to see which extensions are ringing and pick them up from other extensions is an extreemly useful feature and one our current legacy Siemens phone system has.

I'm looking to roll out Asterisk and Aastra phones phones at our head office having had good experience with them at our call-centre. But I don't want to face 50 people moaning at me because they've lost this feature!

Thanks,

Tim

Hey Tim, Nothing yet. I am

Hey Tim,

Nothing yet. I am in the process of getting our system ready for full time service (port takes place next Wednesday). So I've been busy getting everything setup just right and convincing our staff that this new system is light years beyond the Panasonic phones we have.

Not to mention I'm the Controller for the company so my plate has been pretty full for the last month or so.

I'm not really sure I'll be able to figure it out. I do have some friends who are familiar with Asterisk and can code. They have offered to help, so hopefully we'll get it figured out.

If not, I'm sure Ethan with Schmooze is more than capable to create a script if he has the time to. I wonder what the bounty would be for him. It may be worth it to go that route instead.
