Activation Problems

I have a Realtek Nic card, it is not recognized by trixbox which is fine, as I have the CentOS drivers and I know how to install them to get my card working without problems.

I installed trixbox CE and other * versions (PBX-in-a-Flash, Elastix ....) , some found my card and some did not BUT in all cases I get root access. Once I am in root I can install the network drivers manually then reboot and all is well and smooth sailing from them on.

I have trixbox call center edition now but I can not get pass the activation screen because I do not have a working network card so no IP and no internet connection.

I can manually install my network drivers as I normally do but this version of trixbox does not give me root access so I can not install my drivers

This is a problem now as I need to do a full install for a client and they have the same Realtek Nic cards, I have already tested the setup with trixbox CE and all went well after I installed the drivers manually, so I know the servers and hardware are fine and ready to go.

How do I get root access so that I can install the drivers manually and complete the activation?

Hey Martin, As I mentioned

Hey Martin,

As I mentioned in another post, you should check out our certified hardware list. This is the list of hardware that we spend our engineering resources on:

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike I saw that,

Thanks Mike I saw that, however I think you are missing the point of my post.
I don't need new hardware and I don't need help installing the one I already have.

The problem here is I can not install the drivers as I do not have access to do so.
Why do I need to replace a perfectly good and functioning part of the system?
why do I need to purchase hardware that I do not need?

The hardware works perfectly fine with centOS, trixbox CE and every version of * and so far every other linux distro I have installed.

Also my client has 3 locations and 5 of the servers have the same Realtek Nic that I am testing here. I did not buy their hardware they did, I have the drivers for them and I have already tested them with trixbox CE so unless you are suggesting that trixbox Call center will not work on the same hardware that trixbox CE does then I don't see why I need to purchase new hardware.

I don't see the need to bill my client for something they don't need.

So again, all I need is access so that I can install the drives, now can this be done or not?

Martin, trixbox Pro uses a

Martin,

trixbox Pro uses a different CentOS base (4.4) than trixbox CE. As such it will carry a different 'supplemental' driver base than trixbox CE and other CentOS distributions. There are a number of standard CentOS methods of loading kld's at boot.

However, your best bet is to check out the CentOS 4.4 release notes and find a network driver that works out of the box with CentOS 4.4. Finding a card on that list will most likely work with trixbox Pro. Better yet, maybe start a new thread asking "which (non certified) network card do you use with your trixbox Pro?". As I am sure that people on the forum are using this sort of setup it may be valuable feedback for you.

Thanks!
Mike

Thanks again

Thanks again Mike.

unfortunately, it looks like you are only giving me one option.

I have tested the card in the lab with older versions of CentOS it does work once I install the drivers. This is not the problem, it takes me less than two minuets to install the drivers manually it is a very easy process.

So all I need is access to install the drivers.

Not even Microsoft Windows supports everything out of the box and I don't expect trixbox to either but at less with every other OS even VISTA you are given a way to install your drivers yourself, then go into the activation process. You even have the option to install your RAID drivers after your BIOS boots.

this seems like a lot of extra work for something that I can already do in less time and without spending more money.

If this is the only way then I would suggest that this feature be added for future versions, , there are lots of new boards coming out that works perfectly well with trixbox and from the forum post that I have been seeing the main problems people are having with there new boards are the Network cards. If you provide a way for them to install there own drivers manually that would help a lot.
