2 digit extension

Hello all,

It has been a while since I have added a new extension to my TB PRO SE system. All of my existing extensions are two digits but it seems that now I can't create a new extension with less than 3 digits. Has something changed? I am aware of the discussion regarding the downside of using 2-digit extensions but this has never been a problem for our small office. As it stands now, we have been happily using 2 digits for quite a while. These 2 digit extensions are on our business cards, listed in our IVR, etc.....

The "older" extensions are still 2 digit. I don't recall having to do anything special to make them 2 digits but my memory is foggy.

Of course, it would be preferable for any new extension to follow our existing protocol which is why I am posting here.

I did find this post, in which Kerry seemed surprised about any change to a min. 3 digit extension requirement but very little else in this forum:

Thanks for your time and my apologies if I am missing something obvious here.

Robert

Robert, This was a change in

Robert,

This was a change in a newer version of the control panel that came out several months ago that prevents a number of complicated technical problems with having 2 digit extensions. There is currently no way to create 2 digit extensions on trixbox Pro.

Thanks,
Mike

That is some really unfortunate news

Mike,

Thanks.

That is some really unfortunate news for me as our 2 digit extensions have worked and continue to work without a single problem or complication. I question Fonality's stance to globally change such a setting as someone, like myself, has already established a 2 digit protocol that is listed on our website, business cards, etc.... I understand that it might affect some TB setups but there's nothing that I can see that would be affected by 2 digit extensions in my setup.

I guess I'll have to customized my IVR to fake the 2 digit extension that will forward to the now mandatory min. 3 digit extension for any new extensions. What a PITA.

Best

I spoke too soon

I don't think I can make a 2 digit sequence in the IVR. This would be no different than a 2 digit extension.

Now I am stuck. Our existing extensions are 2 digits and I really don't want to change them due to their existence on business cards and other printed material. Any new extension will be 3 digits which isn't a problem for any NEW printed material but seems awkward when listed in the IVR and within existing office protocols as related to the older extensions.

AARRGH!!!!

Why can't 2 digit extensions be an option? Again, I have not had a single problem with my extensions nor can I see any foreseeable future problem with 2 digit extensions.

I'll dig through the forum and see if I can find an explanation.
