Thinking about going Pro

Alright well I'm thinking about going to TrixBox Pro however I have three questions.

Will my Cisco 7970 and 7960s work with it, if so will only SIP work or is there a way to get SCCP to work like on CE?

If I can't use SCCP is there anyway to do call parking etc...

Lastly, assuming the phones work with the system can I have them at remote sites without having to setup a VPN like I do with CE?

Ricky, Cisco's are not

Ricky,

Cisco's are not qualified for trixbox Pro. However, they can work if they are configured to use SIP.

Your requirement for setting up a VPN isn't likely related to trixbox CE but instead your specific network setup. If you have that restriction with CE you will have to do it with Pro.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm told it's not possible

I'm told it's not possible to get the Cisco phones to work remotely without VPN because of TFTP.

You could always allow UDP

You could always allow UDP port 69 (tftp) through to your trixbox server. Then statically set your tftp settings in the cisco phones. You will not be able to get paging and intercom to work on the cisco phones with Pro though.

Maybe I am mis-understanding

Maybe I am mis-understanding your situation. But if you have the proper ports open on your firewall and have your phone configured correctly. I see no reason that the Cisco Phone will not pull its TFTP info remotely.

If I get time I will reconfigure a cisco phone and test it out remotely.

It's not that it won't work.

It's not that it won't work. Most ISP's block tftp on the access-lists in their routers.

It's totally insecure using DNS injection you could do a lot of damage.

Polycom's support FTP for downloading configs. This is how we have set them up since day 1 for remote users.

I would have to check but does the Cisco not support FTP? I have never tried to use a Cisco remotely stand alone.

Not to mention that TFTP is

Not to mention that TFTP is UDP which is a real pain to get NAT'd.

There's always option #3 - Configure your Cisco phones on the LAN, and then send them to your remote users...you'll have to then manually change the SIP server to the external IP address or FQDN of your trixbox Pro, and you'll still have to open up SIP ports...but that solution works.
