HUD Web Launcher not launching on Windows XP
Hi,
I have a bit of a strange problem. We're using the HUD Web Launcher to look up some data on incoming calls. I initially tested our implementation on a Mac system (because it's my primary system) and it worked great, and still does work great. I then installed and configured HUD on a test machine with Windows XP to launch the same URL string. It just doesn't work. :( The Web Launcher doesn't launch anything. I went back and re-configured HUD to use the default test string (Google), thinking that somehow there might be something wrong with the URL string we've created. Still no luck.
Then I vaguely remembered one of the guys in our company playing around with the HUD Web Launcher a while back on his Win XP machine. I called him up and made him test it. It worked! So, now I've narrowed it down to most likely being a HUD configuration issue. Consequently, I go through all the HUD settings on his system and compare them to those on my Windows XP test system. Well, it turns out that the only difference between his installation and the one on my test system is the "Outlook Integration" (and maybe the "Windows TAPI Integration"). Although I don't see why, it kind of makes sense that maybe the Outlook or TAPI integration is causing the Web Launcher to not launch. So, I go ahead and uninstall HUD on my test system and say "yes" to uninstall everything and remove all the files. I then went ahead and rebooted my test machine and reinstalled HUD saying "no" (or "Later") to the "Do you want to install Outlook and TAPI integration" questions. Still, when I start HUD, both components are still there, and of course, the Web Launcher still doesn't work. And, there's no way for me to uninstall those components, just re-install them. That doesn't help either. I've tried.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can uninstall or disable these components without completely breaking HUD? I really, really need this to work. Our agents won't be able to do their job properly without it.
The irony, of course, is that I'm getting this all to work on a Mac, which is an unsupported platform, but not on Windows XP, which is a supported platform. Then, on the other hand, similar to my colleagues Win XP installation without the Outlook Integration, Macs don't have that either because there's no Outlook (Entourage) integration for Macs. Which I guess is a good thing. ;)
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I (kind of) solved the issue, at least for my purposes. We uninstalled Outlook on the workstations in our call center, uninstalled HUD, rebooted, and reinstalled HUD. This time it says Outlook is not installed and that it can't install the Outlook components. Yeay! Skipped the Windows TAPI component too. Now it works! Good thing we don't rely on Outlook. :)
