I have a Nokia N80 which runs on Symbian so i think is similar to the E61. It took a fair bit of digging and fiddling, but I got it to work.
On the Trixbox/Asterisk side, it is a pretty vanilla NAT-NAT SIP setup for the extension, so I'd suggest you first get it working with a SIP softphone (probably when you are outside the firewall where your Asterisk is located), then start to work to connect your Nokia N80 to the same extension.
So, on my N80, on my Menu/Tools/Settings/Connection, work with both:
- SIP Settings, and then go on to set up
- Internet Tel. Settings
as follows:
SIP SETTINGS:
1. set up a number of profiles for each "location" (or type of location you use) - call them what you want, but e.g.
- Asterisk Office
- Asterisk Home
- Asterisk Travel
2. I note that you need to connect your N80 to the appropriate WiFi access point and won't cover that here, except to say that I couldn't connect to some of the WPA-secured access points - but i think others have solved this.
3. I will use the example of setting up "Asterisk Home" - which in my case connects to my home WiFi network and my Asterisk server is at the office (ie. elsewhere)
4. So you need the following settings:
Profile Name: Asterisk Home [or whatever you want]
Service profile: IETF
Default access point: [set up and put your Home access point here]
Public user name: sip:222@asterisk.server.com ["222"=your extension, + your ast server]
Use compression: No
Registration: When needed
Use security: No
Proxy server: [click]
Proxy server address: sip:asterisk.server.com [again your asterisk server]
Realm: asterisk [this stumped me for awhile - this is default, unless you've changed this]
User name: 222 [ie. your extension, same as above]
Password: 999 [your "secret" code defined from your extensions]
Allow loose routing: Yes
Transport type: UDP
Port: 5060
Registrar server: [click]
Registrar serv. addr: sip:Asterisk
Realm: None
User name: None
Password: None
Transport type: UDP
Port: 5060
Notes:
1. other settings may work, but these work great for me with pretty standard SIP setup
2. when you make a "NEW" SIP PROFILE" you are given the option to edit from an existing one, so creating the other two profiles is much easier.
3. When you get the SIP PROFILE(s) completed, then go back up one level on the Connections menu to "Internet Tel. settings" and define one as follows:
Name: Asterisk [or whatever you want for this class of SIP connections to your ast. server]
SIP profiles: [click and select the 1 or more profiles you want associated with Asterisk]
Now when I make a call, I am given the option to call by Internet (e.g WiFi) or Cellular and it works like a charm.
Have fun.
The last link posted doesn't work for me, but i searched the forums for E61 and found a link to another site where somebody had very helpfully detailed (almost) all the steps to setting the phone up. I say almost because it missed out creating the SIP endpoint, but after adding that the phone registered and i could make/take calls on it via trixbox.
Many thanks to all those who contribute such useful information!
I use a Verizon XV6700 [made by HT who makes nearly all the WIndows Mobile based PDA type cellphones]. At this point, I find that about 50% of the calls made now are using SIP or IAX via one of the TBs in my office. It works great from my home, hotspots and my office WiFi.
I have not tried it while driving but there have been success stories reported of that too.
If the asterisk box is behind a NAT, you'll need help. I finally got a Nokia N95 working by installing a router with the dd-wrt voip open source software. If your asterisk box has a static IP, no problems. Otherwise you'll need software in the router like the above, otherwise you will not be able to register.
I think the best thing going in this area is the new Nokia S60 version 3 phones such as the Nokia N95 and Nokia E65. There's a whole list of which of these phones are compatible with trix along with configuration of how to set them up at http://www.gsmcall.com/pages/mobile/mobile-voip.html hope it helps some people out.

this is not a WiFi feature.....it is 3GPP/3GPP@ standard functionality so any implementation on WiFi is proprietary. i have not seen it native on any WiFi mobile (dual mode or otherwise) but i have seen it on proprietary clients (built for the fixed mobile convergence market). dont recall precisely who has built these clients but if you search thru "fixed mobile convergence" and seek out those players that have a client offering i think you will find it....daresay they are mostly WM5 or 6, less likely to be Symbian...
