FXO Gateway
Hi,
I am working on a new Trixbox install and need 8 CO lines to the Trixbox. (We have a contract on the CO lines for 1 more year).
Could anyone recommend an 8 port FXO Gateway to use in this situation. I've seen a bunch of different gateways, but don't know how they compare to each other.
Thanks
Joe
Anything from Audiocodes should work, grandstream also makes a decent unit. I bought a Linksys SPA400 4 port FXO gateway a while back and it works well. My only complaint with it is it will ring twice before it ever rings on the PBX side because the unit is waiting for caller ID info. I am not sure if the Linksys SPA8000-G1 or the Grandstream GXW4008 have this issue.
I have also purchased an Audiocodes 4 port FXO gateway, but for slightly different reasons. It has a survivability feature that is great for remote sites that have PSTN lines, but have the PBX server at the main office. In the event of a connection failure, the Audiocodes turns on survivability so the remote office can still make outgoing calls via the POTS lines, and can still call local extensions.
OK, on the SPA400, under setup>SPA9000 interface, simply change the username to spa400. Also, turn off any FXO ports you aren't using by inputting OFF1, OFF2, OFF3, or OFF4 in the proper spots. All other settings should stay the same unless you have some special telco settings you have to set.
Next, login to your trixbox pro and go to options>voip and add a new account, call it whatever you want/need. Here are the settings I used to make the device work:
Route Name: linksys (or whatever you want to call it)
Provider: Other (SIP)
Username: spa400 (we set this earlier)
Register: yes
Password: (blank)
Server: 192.168.1.100 (IP or DNS of the SPA400)
From User: (blank)
From Domain: (blank)
Allowed IPs: (blank)
Disallowed IPs: (blank)
Qualify: 500 ms
Codec 1: ulaw
Codec 2: alaw
Codec 3: gsm
Direction: both - (friend)
TOS: none (you should change this if you are having QoS issues)
Authentication: plaintext
Transfer: (not applicable for SIP)
Reinvite: no (unless you need this)
NAT: no
Insecure: very
DTMF mode: rfc2833
Register String: spa400@192.168.1.100/spa400 (replace the IP with the SPA400's IP)
The register string was the part that was giving me trouble at first. After I fixed the register string everything fell into place.
Hope this helps.
which version of TB pro are you using?
I remember reading the SPA400 requires asterisk 1.2 or newer to funtion properly. If you are using an older version, you might be pre-1.2 (I'm not sure of that one) and registration won't work properly. also, can you take a screenshot of your voip trunk page for the linksys and private message me with that info?
Thanks
