When changing network configuration from dynamic to static using netconfig it does not keep primary DNS settings. Then I go to web GUI and change it there. Is it a bug?

If you switch from dynamic

If you switch from dynamic to static you are prompted to enter your DNS settings, if you leave it blank it will wipe them out. You have to enter the info into the netconfig window.

I just tested this, system

I just tested this,

system was set to DHCP
my /etc/resolv.conf was showing:

nameserver 208.67.222.222

I ran netconfig and manually set up my IP address info including pointing the DNS to 192.168.5.1 and exited netconfig
my /etc/resolv.conf was showing:

nameserver 192.168.5.1

I ran netconfig and set it back to DHCP, exited netconfig and ran service network restart and my /etc/resolv.conf was showing:

nameserver 208.67.222.222

So it appears to be working normally.

The problem seems intermitant

I have run into this several times on test systems but I've also had it work properly a couple times. This may be the cause of some of the seemingy random registration and login failures people are having since a failure to log in for the repository is the first symptom I run into. I have not been able to narrow it down to any particular sequence of events, hardware, or networking environment. It only happens after I run netconfig and immediatly reboot. But not always.

The problem is easy enough to resolve once you figure out there's an issue.

I frequently make clean

I frequently make clean install from ISO. I've noticed that this is consistently reproduced (at least for me) on the first time setup. The first thing I do after loading from ISO image is I switch from dynamic to static IP.
Then as you said, I cound't login into repository and check what's wrong and, as usual, - primary DNS is not there. So then I change it in GUI and it's fine after that and if I change back and forth between dynamic and static IP its fine too.

Netconfig

I remember seeing posts that if you go into netconfig twice and make the changes, then it works. I routinely do it twice (back-to-back) and reboot the machine and everything seems to work fine.

steps to reproduce the problem

I just made clean install of 2.4.0 to reproduce the error. Here is step-by-step:

1) Install Trixbox 2.4.0 from ISO CD
2) login as root, run netconfig
3) choose static IP, fill all the necessary fields including Primary DNS
4) reboot
5) Open Web GUI->System->Network and observe empty Primary DNS

I had to go into netconfig

I had to go into netconfig twice, I thought I was going mad as I was certain I'd already done it.

Workaround

The workaround appears to be to go into it twice like I mentioned in earlier post. You should not have to do that, but it seems to work.

FWIW, I can consistently

FWIW, I can consistently re-produce this when doing an install--now that I know about it, it's not that big of a deal, but it did throw me for a loop the first few times.

Which DNS should i use?

Hi,
Could any one please give me a simple answer?
When I change my trixbox from dynamic to static which DNS should I use?
1. my router address: 192.168.0.1
2. the DNS found in my DSL/router
3. the openDNS: 208.67.222.222

Seems like if I use 192.168.0.1, VoicePulse trunk doesn't work.

Thank you very much.

I find that opendns servers

I find that opendns servers work better - and this would be preferred if you dont have a real dns server inhouse (linksys router doesnt count).
