HUDlite and Java

While troubleshooting a client issue with HUDlite on CE 2.4.2, I found that HUDlite's reliability seems to be greatly impacted by the version of java loaded on the machine.

I generally run java 5 release 6 (an oldie but a goodie), and I found that the current release (6 release 7 I think), seems to run well. This client had an early 6 release and was having tons of issues.

Has anyone identified a release of java that works best with HUD?
