IAX modem for TB 1.2.0

I tried to install IAXmodem in my older version of TB but get errors, I have Hylafax running just fine with a physical modem, but need the flexibility a software modem can offer. When I have tried to install IAXmodem, it complains. It wants a newer Asterisk. I'm running 1.2.12.1 svn rev 42879. As upgrading from TB 1.2.0 to 2.6 may take a couple of days, and as my old TB works just fine, I would rather install an older IAXModem that is compatible, if only I can find one. Or figure out something that doesn't take as much time as installing a new TB from scratch.
Any hints?
