support

Share your ideas for trixbox CE 3.0

Maybe that title got your attention. This week the trixbox CE development team is converging on Los Angeles to plan out development for pretty much the next 12 months. This is going to be the most complete development plan we have ever done for the CE project. So here is your chance, what things are important to you? Let us know what you would like to see. Comments are open, we want to hear from you.

A real wish list?

Are you talking about a real wish list that we would like to see the system being capable of accomplishing? Even if we are not sure if it would fall into the scope of fonality's development team?

I would like to see things

I would like to see things that are within the scope of the trixbox CE development team to add. Things like integrated hylafax support, IPTables configuration, advanced DHCP manager features.

Some Thoughts

1. A better endpoint manager ( supporting all features of the phones and ability to add more phone types- features easily)
2. A Better reporting tool ( with some some billing functionalities) -- I am actually owrking on that ( windows based appl which will be released und GPL when it is ready ) can be inclded if you want it
3. Speech recognition ad TTS
4. Good FAx support for high loads
5. Clustering Clustering Clustering
6. A load balancing functiuonality ( i.e modular trixbox implementations)
7. Firewall and VPN ( pptp - IPSEC )

Just some rough thoughts...

Speech recognition is

Speech recognition is available through Lumenvox already, there isn't a usable open source project for that. TTS is handled already through Flite. Clustering is much more of an Asterisk problem to solve unfortunately, same with load balancing unfortunately.

Better Endpoint Manager - TOTALLY on our list already
Better Reporting tool - We need some ideas on this
Firewall/VPN - Need some suggestions here

1. Better stats on line

1. Better stats on line use.
2. Integration with exchange server for voicemail
3. Integration with exchange server for faxing. (I'm working on this in my spare time with hylafax)
4. Endpoint manager support for ata's
5. Failover Support

No Firewall - VPN

I would strongly be against any inclusion of firewall or VPN functionality.

These are not services that should be run on the same box as the phone server.

The phone server should never be the gateway or the outside interface for any traffic.

I would be more than willing to kick off and contribute to a best practices wiki on networking with Trixbox.

Scott

My (achievable) wishes

I second (third whatever) the better endpoint manager

2) One click backup and restore of configuration

Scott

Agree all so No Firewall - VPN

For my the same thoucht as Scott

Don't put standard any Firewall/VPN solution on your phone server.
Keep this box clear off these stuf. Make some portforwarding's from your own router and it is running.

Kerry Good Idee for this

Johan

For IP security I think a

For IP security I think a means of tightening/setting IP Tables rules isnt a bad idea but I do not like the odea of making trixbox CE a "God box"

Intergrated HA support

To include:
-voice mail replication
-configuration replication
-snapshotting(point in time *configuration recovery?)
-active passive (sip trunks asterisk ect initialized once active)
-VIP addresses (dns redirection is lame)

In my mind you could take a standalone configured system and setup some HA parameters (VIP addresses mostly) reinitialize the services on that VIP address the configurations, voice mail, modules ect would all have to be placed in partitions that could be replicated)
Run a clean install on a second server -- part of the install script would ask if it's part of a cluster and if so what is the VIP address and sync password.
The new system upon completion of install would use that information to try and sync with the first system.

small business

For small businesses with 2-3 extensions and few calls a day I'm installing Samba file share, postfix-dovecot email and business database running on the same MySQL server, otherwise it is a huge waste of computer resources. For this market segment I would consider having VPN and firewall.

My wish list

1) Integration with hylafax/iaxmodem/avantfax
2) Clustering
3) A2Billing

Thank you !!!

Integration of Openfire and MeetMe3

We seriously need a smooth fusion of Openfire availability/chat functionality and MeetMe3 conferencing. The ability to really establish on the fly conferences while chatting would take Trixbox to another level of user scenarios across a number of organizations.

Maybe you could consider to use a existing reporting server like Jasper Report or maybe something lighter to create a more advanced interface for reporting. This should make everyone happy as the reporting would be totally independent from the normal Trixbox interface and you could supply a number of standard reports while the community could add additional when needed.

You could consider opening the application with a api or documented hooks for plug-ins/modules so we could develop and share specialized functionality in the community.

By the way - you are creating great stuff with Trixbox - followed you all the way from the early Asterisk at home days. This application is just rock solid.

Thanks!

Hello Kerry, A Idee could be

Hello Kerry,

A Idee could be that you after a few day's you make a final list off the 15 top off wish item's
And that we (you) then make a poll with all 15 item's in it en that we (trixbox users) can give to 5 items point from 5 to 1 (item you want at the top of the list 5 point the second 4 point's and so futher.
Then you get a result off wat the big group off user's of trixbox want to have on the wish list with the preferd place.

My list is

1. Stabel System
2. BAckup/restore working over update's (so if you do a upgrade that you can place every thing back and if needed do some translation (old version to new version))
3. A good working reporting tool (mayby installing from package's sreen)
4. A working billing tool (like a2billing mayby installing from package's sreen)
5. A working faxtool (hylafax mayby installing from package's sreen)

What I ment with "mayby installing from package's sreen" is that you install it and that it then also works with filling a few parameters in a new menu option. But that you also can disable/uninstall it.

regards

John

Concerning the backup

Concerning the backup module:

The ability to add additional files to the backup that are not listed in the "Select Items to Backup"

And then when these files are added have them appear in the Items list. (with the ability to remove these particular items from the Items list.)

1. Clustering 2. Better

1. Clustering
2. Better faxing support
3. Built in firewall with QOS- and give us an option to either use trixbox as the WAN router or just put it on LAN side. My installations will sometimes require me to assign the trixbox its own static IP, but NOT to use the 2nd ethernet card for the WAN side. Right now, this is possible using IP tables, but something simpler over the gui would be much better and easier to remember in 6 months what I've done.
3. Auto provisioning tools for linksys, aastra, cisco, Polycom, etc.
4. HUD lite- let us be able to restrict some users from seeing who certain extensions are talking with. This may not be possible but it would be great to have since a lot of installations cannot use HUD due to this privacy reason.
Maybe also give us an option to purchase HUD lite pro for trixbox CE.
That's all for now

I would suggest

Kerry

The things that I have been thinking are:

1. DNS direct dns setting something that would check the wanip automaticly independant from a nat router and a way to communicate with the outside world. this is such a headacke

2. a better backup solution (mondo) etc

3. a better and more understandable interface to set up the email.(ETC send mail)

4. more colors

Wish List - Presence, Instant Messaging

I still believe that using a softphone that provides voice, vmail, instant messaging and presence is a killer application. Openfire might be the way to go, but someone needs to bring it together with implementation instructions and a softphone client that is nice to use. Maybe CounterPath would put some effort into integration if they knew that people wouls use/buy their softphones. Maybe Trixbox needs to manage this and sell CounterPath softphones.

1. MFC/R2 Signalling

1. MFC/R2 Signalling support
2. BRI stuff

1. Better reporting (at the

1. Better reporting (at the moment there is report overload. It would be able to follow a call into the system/queues etc. See where it ends up more easily. Time to answr etc. Haven't looked too much at current system, but there's complete overload with each try of an extension registered as a new call etc.

2. Integrated ISDN support that works.

3. MOH options. Regular annoucement that would interupt moh.

If I think ofmore I'l let you know :)

r

Definitely Presence and

Definitely Presence and Unified Messaging should be high on your list.
Look at what Microsoft is doing with LCS/OCS/Exchange 2007/Outlook Voice Access/...

We have learned (the hard way) that being able to connect and integrate with Exchange 2007 is crucial these days to be taken seriously in a business setting.

Also, with Trixbox in its current state, you can barely use 5% of the functionality of modern advanced phones like the Snom 360/370. Things like presence, call pickup with on screen popups, crm functionality, and far more, can all be done from phones like these!
Trixbox should go beyond the basic functionality of an Asterisk/CentOS/FreePBX combo, which is after all only the core on which a great, innovative platform could be developed.

my list

1 hylafax/iaxmodem/avantfax
2 hardware detection an configuration tool for digium sangoma cards

NO FIREWALL OR VPN

1) Stability/Bug Fixes --I

1) Stability/Bug Fixes
--I don't know if it's a bug, but I've seen several posts--and experienced--a situation where if I have SIP trunks and the internet goes down, tb loses the ability to make or receive calls within two minutes. Phones lose registration, and incoming calls aren't answered (even PSTN/Zap calls).

2) Fax integration

3) GUI for Sangoma/Digium/whatever FXO/FXS card setup/tuning/troubleshooting.

4) DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION. Even a basic list of commands and what they do, list of default username/passwords, basic troubleshooting info, etc.

5) Better email setup--a basic GUI or something simple with the basic settings.

Wish list

1. Hylafax/iaxmodem/AvantFax

Few Ideas

- Unistim files to be able to configure Nortel phones
- A dop menu to select the language module you want to ear when the server answer a call. (English, French, Spanish, ...)
- Dyndns address updater (to update you wan IP address)
- better backup system (automatic backup upload to a ftp server)

Clarification on Demarc

Kerry,

Am I correct that High Availability services and other updtes that would require updates or additional services to Asterisk/FreePBX core are outside the franchise of Trixbox CR?

If we (the users) had a clear understanding of the Demarc point then we could focus our thoughts.

Thanks...Scott

My wishlist

1) Voice-recognization
2) text message, initially within the system, and ultimately of receiving and sending text message with outside.
3) Status field message or button. For example, Day-Night service can be programmed so that it will light up a button or will have a text message associated with a line.
4) Re-current trixbox or server auto reloading (say every 2 weeks)

1.) Multi-tennants

1.) Multi-tennants (CustomContexts are just an workarund), is need for more there...

2.) Better fax support

3.) High-Availability

Tnx in advance.
TrixBox rocks!

nevermind 3 people are still running 1.x

I wish every single issue be fixed with 2.x and necessary tools & procedures would be put in place so we have quality releases and not experimental releases as we have now.

2 things sums up my wishlist.
1-) 'unbroken' updates.
2-) safe backups and restores

Statistics

Hi Kerry.

I would like to see a statistics-system integrated into trixbox. Very much like http://asteriskguru.com/tutorials/queue_stats_product_overview.ht....

Then I think you should work on the FOP. Make it work with more than 50 extensions etc.

Maybe also a text-messaging system, where the admin via trixbox-website can send text-messages to SIP-phones.

Finally I would like the endpoint manager updated to support all the functions on my phone.

Multi-tenant Plus.......

1. Multi-tenant
2. Gateway mode. Where modules are stripped to only the essential required to use as gateway
3. Serial SMDR. Make it compatable with older call accounting systems.
4. Point and click load balancing/redundancy
5. UI for digium hardware config.
6. Endpoint Manager to include Mitel IP phones.

Boy I'm dreaming now!!
Thanks,
Doug.

A lot of these things fall

A lot of these things fall into FreePBX functionality, Asterisk issues, or CentOS features. There are certainly some excellent suggestions here that we are adding to our list.

Kerry, a lot of these

Kerry, a lot of these feature 'are' dependant on other apps, Trixbox as always is a means to get there.

Just my opinion!!

1. Easy email setup (one

1. Easy email setup (one account per extension for fax receiving and voice mail notification)
2. Easy ISDN setup

MFC/R2 support or ability to

MFC/R2 support or ability to install Unicall from update manager, reason for this is because lots of Telco in the Caribbean and South America do not invest in ISDN any more, but are not quit ready to support SIP.

Better Endpoint manager, look how Pingtel did it for Polycom phones to get an Idea

Better reporting tool and the posibility to add call cost to the report

Easy way to add G729 digium license from the gui

multi tennant, but this may be more something for freepbx

my list

easy isdn (hfc card) support
better endpoint support with easy provisioning
native italian sound !!!!!
Hylafax/iaxmodem/AvantFax
call pickup ...

Setting all the passwords during setup

I would like to see all passwords that should be changed, set during the intial setup / install.

Some things

1) Bluetooth chan_mobile support from web interface (come home, put your mobile on table- if it is in the range - all calls go to and through Trixbox)
2) FTP backup support from web-interface (set and forget)
3) "Fetch-me" conference. Add people to the conference by dialling them.

Thanks

Presence Presence Presence Presence Presence

And perhaps a heretical thought - Get a number from Phillippe and let's FINALLY get this into FreePBX as an open interface that HUD and iSymphony and ASTAssistant and anybody else can use to actually control the phone from a client - Met with a Zultys regional rep last week and they have this feature working also - that's two IP systems that I have seen it working in so far and it is a Killer feature. If you have never seen it, it works like this:

1) I come in to work and set my status to Available - when people call my DID, my phone rings because it knows that I am there.

2) I go to lunch - because it is a lunch meeting, I set my status to "Out to lunch" and when someone calls my DID, my phone DOES NOT ring because the system knows I am not there - instead the caller hears "Greg Snover (my voice) is our to lunch (computer voice). Please leave a message, or press whatever to ...

3) I get back from lunch set my status to Available - phone rings again.

4) 3:00 in the afternoon, and I am heading out to look at a jobsite, so I set my status to available-follow me and put my cel phone in as the follow me destination - then when people call my DID, they hear "Greg Snover (my voice) is out of the office, but is available for calls - please hold on while the system connects your call to the parties current location (computer voice)" and the call is connected to my cel phone - maybe even with screening if I want it.

These features are available in other systems and it is a major hole in Asterisk right now - and yes, you can sort-of accomplish this with User and Device mode in FreePBX, but having it in the Desktop client is the proper place for it - Click a box is much easier than "enter this code on the phone".

Greg

We have this coming in

We have this coming in trixbox Pro 2.0 at the beginning of April. It will use a schedule and/or your HUD status to direct calls to a smart find-me/follow-me.

1) Voice-recognization. The

1) Voice-recognization. The inclusion of SPHINX 2 into the base coniguration would allow for basic voice prompt response like [yes/no] prompts and accepting phone numbers or zip codes by voice. It could even be used to extend the directory listing

anything more complex and the users have the option to buy lumenvox. It is just that $2000 is excesive for taking yes and no questions that could be handeled by SPHINX 2.

2) Bluetooth chan_mobile support from web interface (come home, put your mobile on table- if it is in the range - all calls go to and through Trixbox). It would also be nice to have the functionality in Freepbx so that it is easy to use things like
{if john's phone is in range ? call x2132 : play "john is out" and call opperator)}

3) a better and more versitile call screening option.

Backup and fax

Backup/restore would be my top choice and then fax support.

I want to add my vote for

I want to add my vote for better faxing as I have asterisk reset issue currently.

Also an advanced voicemail option that welcomes a new user and walks them through setup of their mailbox.

An extension can be marked as new clearing all previous messages.
Then when the new user logs into voicemail they are welcomed with a custom message and taken through the setup of voice recordings, prompts etc.

I use trixbox in a hotel environment so allowing guests to customize their voicemail with a welcome from us on arrival is a nice touch. This is equally helpful to new employees in an office etc.

Dwayne

I remember mention in the

I remember mention in the not to distant past of a future release being more security minded and putting all of those things in the gui - ie account maintenance page to set things like mysql account, asterisk manager account, maint account, etc. etc. - then an option somewhere to password protect that page or hide it by editing a file - some sites having those options present for some "would-be call center managers" to change could spell havock.

some people are talking about some really cool gadgety features (no offense), but I think this is a really important component. As well as better faxing [outbound via hylafax/avant] (not with the base install, but as an optional package)- all the competing products have it, why dont we?

Also - REALLY IMPORTANT- better *functioning* backup and restore, and if im not shooting to high - complete disk level backup using mondo or something. Even Microsoft ships all its servers with ASR and complete disk backup option if you like (not as complete as mondo, but its something). - this is definitely more important than things like bluetooth support or better UM.

Note to others contributing to this post, think about some of the features you ask for and whether they are in the trixbox arena - multi-tenant for instance, that is really a "freepbx only" thing - there were bounty offerings for that, but nobody really pony'd up the cash for the bounty to make it happen -consider stirring the dust with the guys that actually work in the arena you are wishing to enhance. - Definitely setting my sights high, but trying to come back to earth to think about where the product really needs work that really can be done in the next release - just trying to be constructive ;) - webmin does a lot of that stuff like iptables, sendmail -etc.

To sum up in order:
1. Stability (fix all 2.x issues)
2. *working* backup+restore (with mondo or other disk imaging please)
3. Account manager in the gui (with option to hide it)
4. fax hyla/avant
5. if time permits insert xyz fluf features here.

Bluetooth, Bluetooth, Bluetooth, Backup, Bluetooth

Hi
My list in order is:

1) Bluetooth, Bluetooth, Bluetooth I note the presence suggestion, however what is more elegant is a bluetooth solution that allows an intermediate cell phone. One then has one cell phone for all calls (+/- BT Headset) and monitoring and configuring presence is then obsolete, to me anyway. I sure as hell don't want to have to set my status whatever I do, I want it simple and all the time. Be great to retrieve and control VM's from the Cell phone. One Cell phone is the best I can imagine with todays technology set. Easily controlling the calls form the cell phone to different receptivity levels would be great. (I am in a meeting, VM everyone except named people, I am not to be disturbed by anyone etc...) Depending on Cell phone plans this can be a very cost effective option. It also means phone calls can be continuous multi site i.e. I can take the call at home, drive to work and finish one seamless call there. (Later on video calling may become increasingly relevant with mpeg recordings) This is a killer feature for me that will move Trixbox right into the centre of my World.

2) Echo Cancellation across all devices and perhaps easier echo diagnosis.

3) One click backup and restore of configuration backups from locations off the TrixBox machine, ie easy uploads and downloads from the UI - just like pfSense does would be fine, i.e. Downloads and uploads of backups, over and above local "hidden" backups, for easy copying / replacing new systems.

4) Email server / repository that is also fully backed up and maybe feeds the Cell phone...

5) Text Messaging

6) Fail over seems a problem, not sure the answer though, I agree this is a firewall issue but maybe also a TrixBox issue... Maybe there should be some work to match with a particular firewall, pfSense comes to mind. It seems to me a robust installation will have to involve 2 Internet connections by different modes e.g. cable and ADSL with seamless failover...

7) One XML config file might have merit, but the first priority is to make it easy with 3)!

Hope that helps, that 1 - 3 especially find favor and thank you for asking!

one more thing FLASH memory support

I want to add one more thing to the list: flash memory support. One should have the option of choosing a Flash memory optimized installation. This would configure Trixbox to install on a flash optimized file system like JFFS and also limit write operations in things like log files to limit wear on the memory device.

Shared Voicemail is my vote.

I am a huge backup supporter first,

Then I would love to see shared voicemail. We have several multisite systems and many other systems do shared voicemail. If a user gets a voicemail at store A they can send the vm to location B. Also if I work at location A but am at location B, I can dial and check my VM from Loaction A buy dialing *98.

Endpoint Manager like Asterisk@Home 2.8

I would like a feature that's already in Asterisk@Home 2.8.

The Cisco Config files are held in /tftpboot directory. I backup all these cisco MAC config files to my PC. Suppose the trixbox server crashes & I rebuild a new server, I would like to be able to copy all the config files back to a new trixbox server into /tftpboot directory. Then, when I open up Endpoint Manager I'd like all the Phone Files to appear in the Endpoint Manager GUI.

This feature is already available in asterisk@home 2.8 (Tools -> Cisco Config).

cepstral allison voice/swift module

Given the fantastic results of Allison Smith collaborating with Cepstral, it would be great to have a module which installs the swift/cepstral text to voice engine and an additonal module installing allison's voice. (this requires a payment of 29$)

auto redial

I am not sure how this is referred to in the asterisk world, however, my wife came to me today and keep trying to call someone outside the building - busy busy busy. She asked me why with all the money ive spent on a phone system it couldn't keep redialing until the line wasn't busy.

Perhaps i am ignorant and dont know how to implement this, but i think she is right - its a great idea and should be there. Of course it would tie up the line until you either cancelled the call (i guess by picking up the receiver and replacing it) or until the phone rang with the other end either ringing or connected.

Hope this one is not out of ignorance and would be useful to others

chat service independent of hudlite

it would be very useful to have a chat service from hudlite available with and or without hudlite installed

hudlite functionality

within hudlite, it would be very useful to use the hudlite manager to assign who can and who cannot record calls/barge, etc, which was disabled. A simple tick box or radio button on each user would do the job.

It would also be very useful to have there were extension groups which could be programmed and same type of tickbox and/or radio button which would turn "on" or turn "off" each extension group for each user.

Ie:

Extension: 101
Name: Kerry G.
Hud Login: sip101
Hud Password: lsdakdjf32430924
cellphone: 1 202 555 1212
email: kerry@g.com
extension group: 1
view estension groups: 1-5,9,11

This would make a ton of sense - at least to me. For example maybe groups 6&7 were of no interest to you to follow and maybe the rest of the office wasnt watching group 1 to see who you and chris are talking to all the time.

Hope you find this useful.

wishlist

1) BETTER call reporting - sift out all the multiple lines which are generated for channels opened in one call - e.g. a single call can currently show up as 2 or more entries in the call log - 1 for PSTN to PBX and 1 for PBX to Extension. Why cant we have proper call reporting (like a SMDR -type output) where 1 call= 1 line in the call log.

2) integrated hylafax

3) Better endpoint manager where you can configure ALL the phone's options.

4) integrated isymphony

5) web-based diagnostic tools - e.g. ztcfg, ztspeed, zttest, wanrouter status, etc, available via a web screen

6) web-based backup configuration - not just the freepbx one, but something which backs up the WHOLE trixbox (including directories, all MySQL databases etc) to a local or remote site

7) A roll-back utility which allows the user to roll back to a previous version of any package

Mail configuration

1. A choice between installing sendmail or postfix, some users find it much easier to configure postfix to point to an internal mail server. I have been hacking this since asterisk@home days, would be great to simplify this on install or through the GUI.

2. I would second the idea of complete backup solutions via a click of the mouse!

UPGRADE ON TB 3.0

HI everybody
first thanks for all your works
my wich for future realese :
1 - some better statistics for queue and rg (without ringing time ....)
2 - one fax enfgine who work easyer
3 - an better integration of sugar crm with predictive ....
thanks in advance
pascal

Wish List

1) Good Fax Support
2) Good ISDN Card Support
3) Better configuration for GrandStream and Snom phones
4) Good configuration for Patton external devices
5) Integration of International Languages (Italian prompts)
6) Better Integration of HudLite with Outlook 2007 in Italian
6) Firewall and VPN and https access (ability to lock all the http accesses)
7) A Backup solution that produces working iso for complete and hassle free total restore

More language translations

More language translations of GUI and system prompts.

I've scoured through the

I've scoured through the above list, added a few things, and broken down what we need into a few categories.

1. Integration with Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging Server.
a. Voicemail - We have this working, but it was a pain and we had to pay people to come up with the minor changes needed in the .conf files. Would be great to be able to select "Voicemail" from the drop down box in FreePBX and have it go to the Exchange server's voicemail box.
b. Fax - This requires Trixbox to act as a T.38 endpoint, not just pass-through. There is software out there and it would be great if Trixbox supported it.
c. Call Handling - Similar to voicemail, just handing calls off to the UM box for automated attendants, and accepting them back.
d. SIP over TCP/IP - Not really a Trixbox issue, but if they could at least test some of the patches out there. We currently use sipX as a bridge, and it seems to work fine, but this would get rid of using an entire server just for a bridge.

2. Redundancy - We have two buildings with a T1 into each one and an Ethernet link between the two buildings. We need a way to have the phones in one building use the server in the other in the case of a server or T1 failure.
a. Failover Support - Setting up phones to use one server, and then the other as backup.
b. Clustering - Probably not a Trixbox issue, but worth mentioning.
c. Configuration replication - We have to set up extensions, DIDs, call handling, etc on both systems. Would be great to be able to replicate the settings from one to the other.

3. Backups
a. FTP - Have a page where you enter an FTP server, username, and password, and backup files are automatically dumped to that location. Should also use that location for a restore.
b. Snapshotting - Setting to keep the last X number of backups, rotating through them.
c. Full system backup - Option to backup/compress all files on the system to the backup location. Restore would overwrite all files on the system from the backup.
d. Restore from CD - If system because unstable/unbootable, boot to CD and have option to perform restore from local or FTP location.
e. Upgrade from CD - After backing up settings to FTP or other partition, do a fresh install of a new version from CD, and then automatically restore settings.

4. Endpoint Manager - Manage ATA devices from within the endpoint manager.

1. Import extensions from

1. Import extensions from CVS file
2. Either a restore that works regardless of the TB version, or the ability to export the settings (extensions, groups, queues, routes, trunks, etc.) and import then on a different version of TB
3. Endpoint manager that includes more settings for Snom and Polycom phones
4. Ability to see the address an extension is registered to without dropping to CLI
5. Reorganize the feature codes so everything is between 100-199 or something like that, the numbers jump all over the place
6. Include TFTP files in backup
7. Set the passwords (mysql, manager, meetme, etc.) during install or using the gui

That's a great idea...

7. Set the passwords (mysql, manager, meetme, etc.) during install or using the gui

If not in the initial install, at least one place to go in the gui to set all of those to make the trixbox more secure.

My vote list

I see there is some disagreement about including/excluding firewall/vpn, etc. The choice could be handled by selectable modules, like much of trixbox.

My list is:

1) Postfix
2) ddclient
3) openvpn
4) iptables (auto-configured for only essential services, or via a checklist)
5) expanded FOP
6) Good CDR reporting tool .. maybe A2billing?
7) backup/restore that works across version upgrades

suggestions...

I suggest improvements in:
1. Echo...
2. Billing report.
3. Fax
and in some new:
4. Clustering
5. Firewall

This would be a great feature

The problem is interfacing

The problem is interfacing with Asterisk. It was not made to be pounded on by multiple clients, you have to write a smart proxy that works off the Asterisk manager and events and pipes those events back to the clients. This is a pretty complex piece.

How is the selection going

How is the selection going for what you want to place into Trixbox 3.0? Have you made any hard or soft decisions?

To back up kerry asterisk

To back up kerry asterisk hates manager commands. We were stress testing asterisk and I was originating about 3000 calls per hour via the manager and and asterisk would face memory corruption in 15 minutes. So the moral is if you want a stable asterisk you really need to control how the manager API's are used otherwise it will poop.

Side note we can push about the same number of calls through "sipp" over a sip socket and it rides okay....

Suggestions for v3

Kerry:

I'm not sure if these suggesions have been made, but here's my list of features I would like to see:

1. Using the Admin page, give is the ability to customize the user interface. For example, add SugarCRM to the menu or something like that.

2. Speaking of SugarCRM, I miss having it as part of the install like v2.2. Is there a huge reason why it's not part of Trixbox anymore?

3. Call Screening: Before transfering a call via call forwarding or call transfering, ask the caller for their name. Then when the call is answered it says something like this:

"Hello " + ExtentionName + ", you have a call on hold from " + play caller's name
"What would you like to do? 1 - take the call, 2 - transfer to voicemail, 3 - transfer to another extention, 4 - roll call to next person on the list".

4. Easier way to handle multiple call forwardings. For example, I want Trixbox to call my main cell phone first, then my backup cell phone, then my home office extention, then ....

5. Yea better EndPoint Manager. But to add to this, the ability to customize the template XML file for a phone. For example, we want the XML file used for the SPA942 to have some additional codes in side but we have to edit each .XML file that EndPoint makes now.

6. VLAN support or even better, Cisco Provisioning Support.

7. Better Motherboard Support! Mainly, as many network card support as you can add, including the RealTek drivers and newer Gigabit drivers.

8. SIP/IAX Trunk Wizard. Work with all the SIP/IAX providers and make up a generic wizard that will automatically create the trunk, inbound and outbound rules for a given provider.

9. Option to install Trixbox without CentOS only if CentOS is already installed on the machine.

10. Over the phone tutorials. For example, dial *HELP and have Trixbox give the user a quick demo on how to use their phone with Trixbox.

I'll probably have some more but this is what I have so far.

trix v3

Hello Kerry

Just a few suggestions for traditional PBX-type functions:
1. Class-of Service settings for trunks and extensions (featurecode plus allow/deny tables), I currently use the unsupported Custom Contexts module to do this.
2. A Feature Clear facility for extensions.
3. A working Wakeup Call feature!

Thanks,

JohnF

I agree with Greg about

I agree with Greg about presence. The nerdvittles blue tooth proximity gizmo is awesome in this regards. It does everything you mentioned, except automatically.

I have a dummy sip extension that gets forwarded to nothing or to my cell phone depending on if I'm here. And this dummy sip extension is in the main ring group.

The only problem with this is that when you have a ring group with call confirmation the call logs get "messy". There is a separate log entry for every extension that gets called. What's worse is it looks like the calls were all answered. I end up with a zillion 8 second calls in the log. If I turn off the confirmation this goes away, but this isn't a good idea with a cell phone in the ring group.

I have a script that lists the last few calls and also the last few unanswered calls. And of course this makes everything show up as unanswered.

Nicer presence/cell phone integration would be high on my list.
